We also offer short-link chain cables, with a wide range of chain sizes in stock in Rotterdam. They can be delivered as they are, tarred, or with a hot-dip galvanized finish. Whichever standard your windlass calls for, it’s held ready to cut and dispatch rather than made to order.

Short-Link Chain
What short-link chain is
Short-link chain has no stud across the link, unlike stud-link chain. That makes it lighter and quieter over a windlass — the usual choice for yachts and smaller craft, though it’s also supplied for commercial and industrial use where a stud isn’t required. Because there’s no stud to hold the link’s shape under load, calibration matters even more here than on stud-link chain: the link has to be gauged accurately to run true over the gypsy without slipping or jamming.

NACM2010
A stainless steel standard, calibrated for windlass compatibility in corrosion-critical applications.

As supplied (bare steel), tarred, or hot-dip galvanized — the finish affects both corrosion resistance and appearance on deck.

What standards do short-link chain cables come in?

What's the difference between short-link and stud-link chain?
Short-link chain has no stud across the link, so it runs lighter and quieter over a windlass. Stud-link chain carries a stud to stop the link collapsing under load and is standard for commercial vessels. Neither is strictly “better” — the right one depends on your windlass, your vessel type, and whether the application calls for the extra strength a stud provides.
